Dear United States Congress:
I want you to impeach Donald Trump and remove him from the Presidency. Please add, to the list of Articles of Impeachment, his improper use of charitable assets donated to the Trump Foundation. The New York Supreme Court ordered Donald J. Trump to pay $2 million in damages for improperly using the charitable assets.[1] In my opinion, a President who calls on foreign powers to investigate his political rival is guilty of having broken election law, though this issue has not been tested in court. [2] His removal from the Presidency cannot wait for the 2020 election, because he has shown egregious disregard for the Constitution and election process. With him as President, the ability of the United States to have a fair Presidential election is seriously compromised.
I appreciate the House of Representatives having moved the impeachment inquiry to a phase where some of the hearings have been broadcast to the general public. I would like the House of Representatives to have public hearings, with testimony from at least some of the mental health experts who contributed to The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump.[3] They can give professional opinions about Donald Trump's psychological impairments.[4] The authors realize they break the Goldwater Rule, which states mental health professionals should not give professional opinions about a public figure, unless the public figure is their patient, they have examined the patient, and they have obtained the patient's consent to disclose the statement about the patient's mental health. The authors of The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump argue they have a duty to warn the public in the event of an emergency. This duty supersedes confidentiality considerations, when there is an emergency. Donald Trump’s Presidency is a national emergency. Though I am not a mental health professional, in my opinion, he is a pathological narcissist, meaning his narcissism significantly handicaps his ability to function. He does tremendous damage to our country and Constitution by regularly lying and gaslighting. I think many United States citizens do not realize they are in an abusive relationship with their President. By having hearings in public, with mental health experts testifying before Congress, you can help educate about the dangers of having a narcissistic President. Apparently, Americans need to relearn the lessons of Nazi Germany, for we are headed toward becoming a totalitarian state or possibly facing a doomsday calamity with an unhinged President having access to nuclear weapons. I am not associated with the mental health experts who contributed to The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump, but I urge you to invite them to testify before Congress about the President’s impairments. I would like for these hearings to be part of the impeachment investigation, because the mental health experts can put the President’s behaviors within context of his impairments.
Melanie Tonia Evans and Ross Rosenberg have made videos, publicly available on the Internet, about handling pathological narcissists. I recommend watching some of these videos, to help anyone in a relationship with a pathological narcissist, to maintain sanity and appropriate boundaries with the narcissist. In my opinion, someone who has narcissism, to the same extent as Trump, cannot maintain healthy relationships. I cannot emphasize enough that because of their controlling, manipulative behaviors, pathological narcissists are unable to maintain healthy relationships, and anyone in a relationship with a pathological narcissist should maintain low expectations about the relationship.
I am afraid for our representative republic, because the citizenry of the United States is so fractured, with the partisanship Trump exacerbates. Maybe to be fair in the impeachment proceedings, also include testimony from psychiatrists or psychologists who believe mental health professionals should never opine about the mental health of public figures. I think there needs to be a robust public discussion, in the House of Representatives, about Trump's impairments, application of the Goldwater Rule, and establishment of an Oversight Commission on Presidential Capacity. H.R. 1987-Oversight Commission on Presidential Capacity needs to be enacted. Thank you for your time.
I pay for this communication, which is not authorized by any candidate or candidate's committee.
Sincerely,
Melissa Kirk
